The design of he 415th Chemical Brigade Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) is based upon the Brigade’s colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia approved in 1988. Combat Service ID Badges (CSIBs) were introduced in the mid-2000s around the time the Army Service Uniform was announced as the replacement of the Class A/B Green Service Uniform, with the CSIB intended to at least partially replace the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was worn on the Army Green Uniform sleeves.
Unlike the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and the Class A Green Uniform, CSIBS are worn on the right front of the coat of the Army Service Uniform and the jacket of the Mess / Evening Mess Uniforms. Soldiers authorized more than one CSIB may wear only one at a time, but because they are not manufactured in a miniature size they may be worn on the Mess and Mess Dress jackets (usually miniatures are required for wear on these garments).
