The 420th Engineer Brigade Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, is a metal facsimile of the color Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was approved 18 December 1967. CSIBs are worn on the right front of the Army Service/Dress Uniform coat and the Mess/Evening Mess jacket with one other ID badge at worn beside it. Placement of the CSIB varies for male and female Soldiers; consult Section 22-17 (
pp. 331 through
333) of the January 2021 edition of Department of the Army Pamphlet 670-1 for precise guidance on proper wear of the CSIB.
As a major subordinate command of the 416th Theater Engineer Command (one of just two Theater Engineer Commands in the Army), the 420th Engineer Brigade exercises command and control of all Army Reserve Engineer units based in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico which make up roughly 4,500 Reservists. Four Engineer battalions have been assigned to the Brigade: the 244th headquartered in Denver, the 489th based in Little Rock, Arkansas, and the 961st and 980th stationed in Texas at Seagoville and Austin, respectively. Whether conducting training exercises, assisting in peacekeeping operations, or supporting Soldiers in combat zones, the Brigade and its subordinate battalions have proven its motto of "Success Our Blueprint" is not a boast but an accurate record of its performance—and a goal to aspire to for future assignments.
