Fifth in precedence of ID badges, the Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) was introduced as part of the Army Service Uniform in 2008 (mandatory wear date 2015), serving as the new uniform’s rough equivalent of the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Wartime Service patches worn on the sleeves of the old Class A Green Service uniform. Consequently, the insignias on the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch) and the CSIB are almost invariably identical.
The 42nd Regional Support Group was created in to 2006 with the redesignation of 42nd Division Support Command (DISCOM), which can trace its lineage to 22 February 1917 and the establishment of the 1st Infantry Supply Company in New Jersey National Guard. While the 42nd Regional Support Group’s mission remains largely unchanged from that of its predecessor, it has fewer subordinate units and Soldiers under its command.
A year would elapse before the 42nd Regional Support Group Combat Service ID Badge was authorized for wear. At the top of the insignia is a “rainbow” of red, yellow, and blue—an allusion to the 42nd Division Support Command’s ties to the 42nd “Rainbow” Division. An upraised tomahawk invokes the military duties carried out by Group personnel, while the uplifted wings denote swiftness in delivering support and enhancement of the mind and intellect. Taken together, they convey the Group's heritage and commitment to the unit motto, "With Support We Conquer."
