The 45th Sustainment Brigade Combat Service Identification Badge features the same design found on the Brigade’s color Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, also called a unit patch (link below). A diagonally oriented lightning bolt alludes not only to the unit’s previous service as part of the 25th Infantry Division, but is also a reference to the speed at which the Brigade can deliver its support services; its gold color signifies excellence. A compass rose in the upper half of the insignia is an emblem of leadership and guidance necessary to deploy successfully worldwide, a concept reinforced by the Southern Cross in the lower half of the insignia.
The 45th Sustainment Brigade was inactivated in 2015.
Introduced at the same time as the Army Service Uniform (ASU), the Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) is the ASU equivalent of the full-color unit patch worn on the Class A/B Army Green Uniform. Only four identification badges have higher precedence than the CSIB, and in fact any ID badges with lower precedence worn on the same side (right) as the CSIB may be moved to the left to make the CSIB more prominent.
The CSIB is also worn on the Mess/Evening Mess uniforms. While uniform regulations call for the wear of miniature identification badges on these uniforms, the Army has made an exception to the rule for any badge such as the Combat Service ID Badge that is not manufactured in a miniature size.
