The 4th Maneuver Brigade's motto is Animus Omnia Vincit, or
"Courage Conquers All." But in May 2015 it discovered that isn't quite always the case, when cuts to the Department of Defense budget led to the unit's inactivation less than a month later on June 17.
Constituted in April 2007 as the 4th Combat Support Brigade and activated on October 16, 2008 as the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, the unit's mission was to conduct a broad array of operations to support the maneuver, stability, consequence management, and security of forces in its area of responsibility. It was made up of a variety of sub-units under the control of a headquarters staff to perform sustainment, protective, and movement-and-maneuver support tasks. Based at Fort Leonard Wood for the entirety of its tenure, the brigade deployed several battalions and smaller-echelon units, including two-three person teams, into theaters of operation across the globe.
The 4th Maneuver's commitment to excellence is symbolized by the gold coloration in its Combat Service Identification Badge, or CSIB. In the center is a lozenge (diamond-shaped heraldic symbol) representing protection and strength; the unsheathed sword stands for vigilant security, and is also found the brigade's unit crest (see below). The four chevrons at the tips of the lozenge are for the unit's numerical designation and also denote its four core missions. Teal stands for the unit's branch immaterial status.
