The design of the 516th Signal Brigade Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, is taken from the color version of the Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Two lightning flashes symbolize communications and electronics and thus the function of the Brigade, whose status as a Signal Corps unit is also reflected in the orange and white used in the insignia. An upright spear reflects the unit’s willingness to fight, as well as its experience in combat zones while designated the 3367th Signal Service Battalion during World War II. Today, the Brigade--whose motto is "Voice Of The Pacific"--is a major subordinate command of the 311th Signal Command that support U.S. Army Pacific and comprises four battalions: the 30th, 59th, and 78th Signal Battalions and the 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion.
Combat Service ID Badges are authorized for wear on the right front of the coat of the Army Service/Dress uniform and the jacket of the Mess/Evening Mess uniform. Placement varies for male and female Soldiers, and when wearing the CSIB Soldiers are limited to the wear of one other ID badge on the same side of the coat/jacket. See Section 22-17 (
pp. 331 through
333) of the January 2021 edition of DA Pamphlet 670-1 for complete guidance and regulations regarding wear of the Combat Service Identification Badge.
