The insignia on the Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) worn by members of the 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command is the same as the color version of the Command’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, which was formerly worn on the left sleeve of the old Army Green Uniform. CSIBs were introduced at the same time as the current Army Service Uniform and are intended to be something of an equivalent to the discontinued colored unit patch. CSIBs are worn on the Army Service/Dress Uniform coat and Army Mess/Evening Mess Uniform jacket. Full guidance on CSIB wear is found in Section 22-17 (
pp. 331 through
333) of the Army’s Guide to the Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia (DA 670-1, January 2021).
For more than seven decades, the 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command has provided a level of support to Soldiers serving around the globe that is so exceptionally consistent that they truly can “Rest Assured” that they will have the tools and essentials they need to achieve victory. In World War II, while serving under its original designation of 1350th Engineer Base Depot Brigade, the unit was honored with a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service in the Pacific Theater and the Philippines.
During the Vietnam War, the unit was designated the 593rd General Supply Brigade and took part in an astonishing 14 of the conflict’s 17 named campaigns, earning both a Meritorious Unit Commendation and a Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm for its exceptional performance. Most recently, the Command—still designated as the 593rd Support Group at the time—was honored with yet another Meritorious Unit Commendation for its deployment from 12 June 2006 to 11 June 2007.
