The 77th Combat Aviation Brigade CSIB (CSIB) employs the color version of the Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI); use the
link below to read about the symbolism used in this patch. Ranked fifth in precedence of identification badges, the CSIB is worn on the right side of the Army Service Uniform coat and Mess and Evening Mess Dress jackets. Because the badge indicates a unit has seen combat, regulations permit the wearer to move any other ID badge prescribed for right-side wear over to the left so that the CSIB may have more prominence. Additionally, regulations allow the wear of full-size CSIBs on Mess and Evening Mess uniforms that typically require miniature-size medals and badges.
Displaying their readiness and ability to deliver “Force From Above,” the 77th Combat Aviation Brigade was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for their service in support of Operation New Dawn between 21 April and 13 December, 2011. In Permanent Order 024-16, the Department of the Army noted that the Brigade, assigned as Task Force Peacemaker, had proven its expertise at adapting quickly to “constantly changing challenges” in order to succeed at tasks that otherwise could not have been accomplished. “The unit's tenacious support of the ground commanders' requirements for mobility, intelligence gathering and force protection,” the order reads, “contributed significantly to the success of Operation New Dawn.”
