The Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) of the 333rd Military Police Brigade is adapted from the color version of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia—Former Wartime Service, or SSI—FWTS, that was authorized for wear on the now-discontinued Army Green Uniform. Unlike the SSI—FWTS, the CSIB may be worn on the Army Service/Dress uniforms and the Mess/Evening Mess uniforms. Soldiers may be authorized more than one CSIB, but only one may be worn at any given time. See Section 22-17 (
pp. 331 through
333) of the January 2021 edition of DA Pamphlet 670-1 for guidance on the wear of the CSIB.
After being redesignated from the 800th Military Police Brigade to the 333rd Military Police Brigade in 2012, the unit was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. From October 2012 to July 2013, the Brigade’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company—along with two MP Battalions, four MP Companies, and the 345th Combat Support Hospital—executed mission command over the full panoply of detention operations at the theater-level detention facility operating in Afghanistan at the time.
While performing an outstanding job ensuring the care, custody, and control of more than 4,800 detainees, the units were also able to partner with Afghan National Army detention command in order to train them to assume these detention tasks on their own. By the end of the tour, the Brigade and its partner units were able to transfer over 1,200 Afghan detainees and the detention facility to the control of the Afghan National Army, earning Meritorious Unit Commendations just a few months after their return in July 2013. For the 333rd Military Police Brigade, it was just another opportunity to show how seriously they take the unit motto “VIRES IN ARDUIS,” or “Strength In Difficulties.”
