The 81st Readiness Division Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB for short, is taken from the color version of the organization’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch—which just happens to be the oldest officially approved unit patch design in the history of the Army. You can read how the Wildcat Division’s insignia was designed and the fight to gain approval for its wear on the 81st Readiness Division unit patch page.
As a Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, the Wildcat patch has been worn by a half-dozen organizations, with many of the latter having been assigned the patch worn by predecessor units, but not the history or lineage of those units. These include the 81st Division (and Infantry Division), 81st Army Reserve Command, 81st Regional Support Command, 81st Regional Readiness Command, and of course the current 81st Readiness Division. It is unclear how many of these former units have had CSIBs authorized.
