The 85th Civil Affairs Brigade Combat Service ID Badge is based upon the Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, which was originally authorized for the unit in 1976 while it was designated the 362nd Civil Affairs Brigade. Click the link or the 85th Civil Affairs Brigade Unit Patch to learn about the symbolism employed in the patch and CSIB.
Originally constituted as the 362nd Civil Affairs Area in 1966, the 362nd was inactivated in 1979 and was redesignated the 90th Civil Affairs Brigade (but not activated) and allotted to the Regular Army on 2 June 2009. It was redesignated but again not activated as the 85th Civil Affairs Brigade on 23 September 2009, and was finally activated on 16 September 2011, thirty-two years to the day that the 362nd Civil Affairs Brigade had been inactivated.
On 31 January 2018, the anniversary of the constitution and activation of the 362nd Civil Affairs Area in Dallas, Texas in 1966, the 85th Civil Affairs Brigade and its two subordinate battalions were inactivated.
