The 916th Support Brigade’s origins are linked to the establishment of the National Training Center (NTC) and its initial component units, including the NTC Materiel Management Center and the NTC Corps Support Battalion.
It was initially established under the Deputy Commander for Logistics during 1994 and 1995; officially activated as the NTC Theater Support Command coming on 16 September 1997, it was tasked with the complex mission of support rotational Brigade Combat Teams through theater-level Reception, Staging, Onward movement, Reintegration, and Regeneration Operations.
The Brigade was also the source for all general aviation and logistical support to the tenant units at the National Training Center, including Aero-Medical Evacuation. Additional, the Brigade’s Aviation component supported NASA Space Shuttle Launchings and landings until the Shuttle missions came to an end in 2011.
Today, the Brigade exercises mission command to deliver sustainment and select Aviation Support operations across the entire Area of Operations of the National Training Center, synchronizing distribution and sustainment management to guarantee readiness. The mission is summed up in the Brigade motto, SUSTINEO COACTUM, Latin for "Sustain The Force."
The design of the 916th Support Brigade’s Combat Service ID Badge is taken directly from the Brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI), which was approved for wear on 30 March 2009. Click the “SSI” link below to learn about the insignia’s symbolism.
