Worn only on the blue Army Service Uniform that was introduced in the mid-2000s as a replacement for the old Army Green Uniform that was discontinued in October 2015, the design of the 95th Training Division’s Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) is the same as the colored Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) that was worn on the right sleeve of the old Army Green Uniform (and which is now authorized on the Army Green Service Uniform, or AGSU).
The oval-shaped insignia features the Arabic numeral 9 in red interlaced with a white Roman numeral V and set on a blue background. Blue is the branch color for Infantry, while the combination of the trio of colors serves as our National colors.
Originally approved for the 95th Infantry Division on 29 August 1942, the SSI upon which the CSIB is was redesignated for the 95th Division (Training) on 24 June 1968, reflecting the unit’s assignment as a Training organization since April 1959. The description of the insignia was amended in April 1972, followed a little over three dozen years later with its redesignation for the 95th Training Division on 16 September 2009.
An Army Reserve unit, the 95th Training Division is based at Fort Sill. According to the Army Reserve’s Web site for the Division, it comprises four Brigades that conduct Initial Entry Training (IET), with the majority assigned Basic Combat Training (BCT) missions and a few conducting One Stop Unit Training (OSUT).
