The Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) worn by Army personnel in the U.S Army Criminal Investigation Command—referred to as CID instead of CIC in a nod to the organization’s origins as the Criminal Investigation Division—is based entirely on the organization’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, which was approved on 12 November 1971.
A star in the center, along with lines of latitude and longitude recalling the appearance of a globe and the eight arrowheads marking the primary points of a compass rose, symbolize the Command’s mission: centralized authority, command, direction, and control of worldwide U.S. Army criminal investigations and related activities.
Headquartered at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia, the U.S. Army CID consists of six major subordinate commands, including two Military Police (MP) Groups consisting of MP Battalions and MP Detachments; another MP Group made up of four Units (Field Investigation, Major Procurement Fraud, Major Cybercrime, and Transregional Criminal Investigation) and a Protective Services Battalion; Criminal Investigation Laboratory; Crime Records Center; and Defense Forensic Science Center. "Do What Has To Be Done" is the organization's motto.
