The U.S. Army Element, Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan Combat Service ID Badge uses a design similar to the organization’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, with only slight variations in the color of the sky and mountainsides used for the insignias. You can learn about the symbolism of this insignia by licking the link for the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia below.
Combat Service ID badges, or CSIBs, were created in anticipation of the introduction of the blue Army Service Uniform, which did have colored unit shoulder patches like its predecessor (and eventually its replacement). Fifth in precedence of the Army’s ID badges, the CSIB is worn on the wearer’s right of the blue ASU and ASU Dress variation, Blue Army Mess, and White Army Mess uniforms. Personnel are allowed to move ID badges of lower precedence than the CSIB that are normally worn on the right side to the left side so the CSIB can have more prominence.
Retired personnel who were authorized to wear the SSI-FWTS on the right shoulder of the old Green Service uniform may wear the equivalent Combat Service ID Badge on blue Service and Dress uniforms.
