The design of the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Readiness Command Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, is taken directly from the Command’s unit patch, or Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Military Operations in Hostile Conditions (SSI-MOHC, previously SSI-FWTS for “Former Wartime Service”). Oriental blue, primary branch color for the Military Intelligence Corps, is used for the background of the shield-style insignia; according to The Institute of Heraldry, the shield’s shape is in “homage to the Firsts Military Intelligence Reserve unit patch.”
A white globe with oriental blue gridlines is a symbol of the unit’s worldwide mission. A pair of crossed lightning flashes point toward the four “corners” of the globe, reflecting the speed of modern electronic communications. An upright sword, an emblem of military readiness, features a hilt, hand guard and pommel shaped like a key as an allusion to security and control.

The insignia upon which this CSIB is based was approved on 15 September 2005, the same year that the Command was stood up as the first Army Reserve Functional Command. The Military Intelligence Readiness Command is based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Its motto is "Always Engaged."
