The 193rd Infantry Brigade Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) is the Army Service Uniform’s rough equivalent of the full-color Shoulder Sleeve Insignia worn on the now-discontinued Class A Green Service uniform. It is worn on the right side of the Army Service Uniform (it is positioned differently on male and female uniforms) and on the right side of Mess and Evening Mess Dress uniforms.
The insignia used on the 193rd CSIB is essentially the same as the one approved for wear as a full-color Shoulder Sleeve Insignia patch, although the colors may not match up perfectly. Flag-blue is a color long associated with Infantry units, and the Infantry mission of closing with and engaging the enemy is portrayed with an upright bayonet. The thin, white background on which the bayonet is superimposed represents the narrow Panama Canal Zone, where the 193rd Infantry Brigade was stationed from 1962 to 1994 and where its personnel literally had “No Ground To Give,” which forms the unit motto.
