The U.S. Army Male Enlisted Blue Mess Uniform is worn for black-tie functions and corresponds to a civilian tuxedo. Its basic components are the Army Blue Mess Jacket, light-blue high-waisted trousers, a white semiformal dress shirt with turndown collar, black bow tie, and black cummerbund. Some components require (or support) additional accessories found on this page, such as cuff links and studs for shirts and suspenders for the high-waisted trousers.
There are very few differences between the Enlisted Blue Mess and Officer’s/General Officer’s Blue Mess uniforms, with all three sharing the same basic jacket design and button layout and the same color trousers (except General Officers wear dark-blue trousers). But while Enlisted personnel wear service stripes and overseas bars on the jacket sleeves, Officers wear trefoil ornamentation and insignia of grade on their sleeves and General Officers wear a blue-black velvet braid with gold oak leaves and appropriate number of stars for their rank. The shoulders of the Enlisted Blue Mess Jacket are unadorned; Officers and General Officers wear shoulder knots.
