The U.S. Army Forces Command beret flash (also known as an organizational flash) is worn centered on the stiffener of the maroon beret that is authorized for wear by Airborne organizations. Officers (except Chaplains) wear their non-subdued insignia of rank centered on the flash, while Noncommissioned Officers wear the U.S Army Forces Command Distinctive Unit Insignia on it in similar fashion. The flash is worn by all personnel assigned to the organization regardless of their personal Airborne training or qualifications.
Also called background trimming, the patches commonly called ovals are worn beneath any Parachutist or Air Assault badges the wearer has earned, with the primary portion of the badge (i.e., excluding the star and wreath on certain Parachutist badges) centered on the oval. The two items are counted as one when determining the maximum number of badges allowed on each authorized uniform type; these include the AGSU and ASU/ASU Dress Coats, the ASU Shirt, and the blue or green Army Maternity Tunic (female Soldiers only).
