Four-inch cuffs are used on the sleeves of the White Mess Dress uniform jacket (both male and female versions). For the White Mess Dress jacket, white four-inch cuffs are sewn with their bottoms almost reaching the end of the sleeve (just 1/8 of an inch from the sleeve end, in fact).
The General officer grade insignia is not placed on the four-inch cuff, but rather centered one inch above upper edge of cuff braid, and must be of embroidered white cloth or silver bullion. General officers are given the option of wearing their branch insignia with the White Mess Dress jacket; in that case, the insignia is centered on the outside of the sleeves and worn one inch above the cuff braid (only metal pin-on branch insignia devices are permitted). When wearing branch insignia, the grade insignia is placed one inch above it.
These are the only devices or ornamentation allowed on the sleeves or cuffs of a General officer’s White Mess Dress jacket. For the sleeves of the
Blue Mess Dress jacket, on the other hand, a 1-inch band of oak leaves made in gold bullion, synthetic metallic gold, or cold-colored synthetic material is embroidered onto the cuff.
