On the Blue Mess and White Mess jackets, Major Generals wear an embroidered version of the two-star rank insignia on the jacket sleeves. On the Blue Mess jacket, regulations mandate the insignia is embroidered silver bullion, while insignias made of white cloth or silver bullion are permitted for on the White Mess jacket. The Major General’s two stars are centered on the outside of the jacket sleeves, placed either one inch above the upper edge of four-inch cuff found on each sleeve or one inch above the optional branch insignia, which itself is placed one inch above the upper edge of the cuff. Stars are worn with one point upward with a two-inch space between their midpoints.
We offer two types of embroidered Major General rank insignia, Sew-On and Clutch Back, for both the Blue and White Mess jackets (be sure to choose the right color in the box to the right!). Sew-on insignia is sewn onto the sleeve directly, creating a highly professional appearance and producing the most secure attachment possible. Of course, sewing these relatively small devices onto a sleeve requires the patience and experience of a seamstress or tailor, but that’s not really a drawback for someone at the O-8 pay grade.
Major Generals have the option of wearing branch insignia on the Blue and White Mess jackets, but doing so changes where the grade insignia is placed (one inch above branch insignia, which is one inch above the sleeve cuff). Our Clutch Back embroidered bullion rank insignia give you the freedom to wear branch insignia to any event you like—detach the rank insignia, position the branch insignia, then reattach the rank insignia in its new proper location.
