U.S. ARMY AGSU OFFICER SERVICE CAP

The Heritage Green Service Cap is a unisex cap that may be worn by all Soldiers as optional headgear with the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) unless directed by the Commander to wear the black beret. It is not required when Soldiers wear the dress variation of the AGSU as a formal uniform to formal evening functions (after retreat).

It is a military-style peaked cap manufactured in the same material (55/45 polywool mock elastique) and shade (Heritage Green 564) as the AGSU coat. The visor and the chinstrap are made of Heritage Walnut 567 leather. Insignia is worn on the front of the Service Cap secured through the front eyelet, with Commissioned Officers and Warrant Officers wearing the Coat of Arms of the United States measuring 2.375 inches in height and rendered in gold-colored metal.

The Service Cap is worn straight on the head so that the hatband creates a line around the head that is parallel to the ground. This positioning ensures that the visor is oriented correctly, neither interfering with the wearer’s vision or riding up the wearer’s forehead.

The cap has been manufactured to mimic the “50 mission crush” appearance in which the middle of the cap behind the peak curves downward; personnel are authorized to wear it as is or with an optional insert to make the cap rigid.
