The 1 ½-inch black braid was employed on the Class A Army Green Uniform in much the same way that 1 ½-inch gold braid is used on the current Army Service Uniform, namely as a another method of displaying rank. When the uniform was worn by male or female General Officers, the 1 ½-inch braid was sewn onto each sleeve of the coat parallel to and three inches above the bottom of the sleeve.
On the trousers of the Army green uniform, on the other hand, the 1 ½-inch black braid was used for uniforms worn by all male officers (including Warrant) below the rank of O-7, while the trousers worn by enlisted personnel were unadorned with any type of stripe or braid.
Although the Army prohibited the wear of both the Class A and B Army Green Uniform when the Army Service Uniform officially replaced it with the Army Service Uniform on October 1, 2015, there is still a significant demand for the uniform among veterans as well as motion-picture and television production companies. We offer the ½-inch braid in 30-inch rolls (for coat sleeves) and three-yard rolls (for pants), as well as by the yard. Double-check your selection when ordering to ensure you’re buying the amount appropriate for your needs.
