U.S. Army National Guard Training Center Garrison Command patch, officially referred to as a Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, was approved on 1 November 2011. Its triangular shape is divided into three equal parts colored yellow, red, and blue, the official branch colors of the three basic combat arms units: Armor/Cavalry, Artillery, and Infantry, respectively. This threefold division also recalls the components that make up the “One Army” concept: Active, Reserve, and National Guard.
A disc in the center of the insignia contains a rendering of the Minute Man statue and thirteen stars, images that associated with the founding of our nation through the sacrifice and courage of citizen-soldiers from all of the thirteen colonies.
The National Guard Training Center Garrison Command was established in the summer of 2013, a little over a year-and-a-half following the approval of this unit patch, with the New York National Guard’s historic Camp Smith Training Site been selected to host the new institution. In addition to the insignia, the facility was also given a new flag identifying it as both a component of the Army National Guard Training Center network and the Training Center Garrison Command: New York. Prior to being designated as the ARNG Training Center Garrison Command, Camp Smith had played host for National Guard Annual Training and served as a an ARNG mobilization facility.
