U.S. ARMY SPECIAL TROOPS BATTALION, 25TH INFANTRY DIVISION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Special Troops Battalion, 25th Infantry Division was originally constituted on 12 October 1943 under the same basic designation (it lacked a Headquarters Company at the time) and activated in New Zealand on 21 January 1944. During World War II, the Battalion took part in the Luzon campaign and its service was recognized with a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.

Inactivated in March 1949 in Osaka, Japan, it was reorganized and redesignated six months later as the 25th Replacement Company (also in Osaka). As a Replacement Company, the unit took part in all ten of the named Korean War campaigns; it was also awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation and was the recipient of two Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citations.

In February 1957, the unit was redesignated as the 25th Administration Company, and in this new role it went on to take part in a dozen campaign of the Vietnam War, receiving three Meritorious Unit Citations, two Republic of Vietnam Crosses of Gallantry, and a Civil Action Honor Medal. With the end of the Vietnam War near, the unit was redesignated as the 25th Adjutant General Company, a designation it held nearly fifteen years until its 1986 inactivation, which lasted nearly twenty years.

On 16 November 2005, the unit was reorganized and redesignated once again as Special Troops Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. Before its eventual (and final) inactivation on
15 January 2010, the Battalion was awarded two more Meritorious Unit Commendations for its support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and, as always, lived up to its motto, “Strike With Honor.”
