A component of the U.S. Army’s Combined Arms Center, the Warrant Officer Career College was established in 1993 and is based at Fort Novosel (formerly named Fort Rucker) in Alabama. In layman’s terms, it offers “soup to nuts” training for the Army’s Warrant Officers throughout their entire careers, from initial Warrant Officer training at the Warrant Officer Candidate School to classes offering Advanced CWO training and courses targeting specific grades (Intermediate for CW3 and CW4, Senior for CW4 and CW5). Because of the increased leadership responsibilities the Army envisions for its CWO cadre, the College also offers a course in Training, Advising, and Counseling.
The U.S. Army Warrant Office Career Center Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, pays homage to its origins in the Army Mine Planter Service in 1918 as part of the Coast Artillery with a blue mine case superimposed over a pair of crossed cannons. A lighted torch at the top represents the enlightenment provided by education and learning and reinforces the motto of “STRENGTH IN KNOWLEDGE;” the laurel wreath surrounding it is a heraldic imagery of excellence and achievement. The three stars stand for the parts of the Army—Regular, Reserve, and Army National Guard—whom the College’s graduates will serve.
