That cap can be found here.If you had to pick the single component of Army Service Uniforms that has undergone the least amount of change since it first appeared, it would have to be the Garrison Cap. Introduced to American doughboys by French
poilu, the cap was not issued to most Soldiers (though it was a favorite pf Air Corps Officers starting in the mid-1920s) until the outbreak of World War I.
It was during WWII that company- and field-grade officers adopted gold-and-black piping for the cord edge braid of the cap. These colors were retained with the introduction of the Army Green Service Uniform in 1956, with the additions of General Officers wearing solid gold cord edge and Warrant Officers wearing silver and black; NCOs and Junior Enlisted wore caps that used no colors for the piping on the edge.
It remained a clothing bag issue item until 2001 and the decision to make the Black Beret the standard headgear for utility uniforms in garrison environments and, a few years later, the standard headgear for both the old Army Green Service uniform (which became officially obsolete after its wear-out date of 30 September 2015) and the blue Army Service Uniform.
The Garrison Cap was revived in 2018 for the newly imagined Army Green Service Uniform, but it is manufactured in a single version for all Soldiers, from General Officers to Junior Enlisted, and in an entirely different shade from the Garrison Caps of years gone by.
