The Coast Guard Auxiliary authorizes both Members and Auxiliarists who have been elected or appointed to leadership or staff officer positions to wear the insignia reflecting their organizational leadership position on the Garrison Cap, as well as on Auxiliary ball caps and Coat Guard unit ball caps.
Auxiliarists who’ve been elected to Flotilla Vice Commander (VFC) wear the single gold bar mounted with a blue “A” on the right side of the Garrison Cap, with the Garrison Cap device (a smaller version of the Combination Cap device) on the left side. Both are placed so that their centers are 2 inches from the Cap’s front crease and 1-1/2 inches from the cap’s bottom. Garrison Caps are authorized for wear with the men's and women's Tropical Blue, Winter Dress Blue, or Undress Blue uniforms; Aviators may additionally wear them with Flight Suits.
Only the VFC leadership insignia is worn on the two types of ball caps. It is worn with the long axis vertical and centered between the two inscriptions found on both caps; on the Auxiliary cap, for instance, the VFC insignia is centered between “U.S. COAST GUARD” and “AUXILIARY.”
