The Male Dinner Dress Blue Jacket Uniform (DDBJ) is an optional uniform purchase for all Enlisted personnel except Gold Badge Command Master Chiefs and the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard. Worn to official evening functions where civilian attire would be mandated as black tie and tuxedos, the DDBJ is also worn to any formal event, e.g. formal dances and cotillions, opera or theatrical productions, weddings and receptions, and so on.
An evening jacket manufactured with a 55/45 polyester-wool blend featuring semi-peaked, narrow lapels is the cornerstone of the uniform and is identical to the Navy’s Male Enlisted DDBJ but with Coast Guard buttons. It is also essentially the same as the DDBJ worn by Male Coast Guard Officers but with sleeve rating badges and service stripes replacing Officers’ sleeve striping and Coast Guard sleeve device. A gold cummerbund is worn pleats up with the DDBJ, while white gloves may be worn only by Officers (and only when outside).
