Prescribed for an elite group of E-9 Coast Guard personnel—Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard and Gold Badge Command Master Chiefs, to be precise—and an optional purchase for all other Enlisted Guardsmen, the Dinner Dress White Jacket Uniform (DDWJ) for Enlisted Males is the warm-weather equivalent of the Dinner Dress Blue Jacket and, as such, bears a striking resemblance to it.
Aside from the obvious color difference in the Jackets and the rating badges worn on them, the only significant difference between the two are the number of gold Coast Guard buttons employed on the left and right front panels of the Jackets—the White Jacket has two 35-ligne button on each side, while the Blue Jacket has three. Both jackets use a 3/4-inch chain linking two 28-ligne buttons for closure.
Just as with the Blue Jacket, Enlisted Guardsmen display rank insignia and specialty with a rating badge, along with Service Stripes denoting length of service in four-year increments. Dark blue Evening Trousers, white tuxedo shirt and black bow tie, gold cummerbund, and black Oxford shoes and black socks round out the uniform, which is the Coast Guard equivalent of a civilian’s black tie and tuxedo attire and is worn at official evening functions and highly formal events like cotillions and balls, weddings and receptions, operatic and theatrical productions, and so forth.
