The Dinner Dress White Jacket Uniform (DDWJ) for Female Officers is the warm-weather version of its Blue Jacket counterpart and is a required uniform for Lieutenant Commanders (O-4) and higher (it is also mandated for a
select group of Enlisted personnel in the E-9 paygrade, including the
Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard). Its wear is prescribed for official evening functions at which civilians would wear black-tie attire and at non-official formal occasions such as formal dances and cotillions, symphonizes and concerts, theatrical productions and operas, receptions and dedications, etc.
Just as with the Coast Guard’s white uniforms for Officers, rank insignia is displayed on the DDWJ via hard shoulder board. The shawl collar of the Female DDWJ contrasts with the semi-peaked lapels found the version for male Officers, which has two large (35-ligne) gold Coast Guard buttons on the front panels of the jacket as opposed to the trio of smaller (23-ligne) buttons on each side of the front of the female Jacket.
While the DDWJ for females does not require the two-button (28-ligne) link-chain closure found on the men’s version, it is authorized as an optional component of the uniform. Also optional are white slacks, although their wear is prohibited under certain conditions and in certain locations; see Section 3.C.6. of Coast Guard Uniform Regulations for specific details.
