Designed for wear on both sleeves of the Service Dress Blue coat, our Information Systems Management (ISM) Warrant Officer sleeve devices features the ISM specialty mark—a French-style phone above a globe that seems to serve as its cradle—and the Coast Guard shield, both embroidered in gold thread on a blue serge backing. (The anachronistic image of an analog phone handset was taken from the disestablished Telephone Technician’s rating in 2003).
Place the ISM device on the sleeve with the bottom of the Coast Guard shield 1/4-inch from the Chief Warrant Officer rank stripe; the lowermost edge of the fabric backing should be parallel with the cuff. Horizontally center the shield (and by extension the ISM specialty mark) on the outside of the sleeve before sewing the device in place.
Since 2003, this device has been prescribed for wear with the Dinner Dress, Full Dress, and Service Dress Blue “Alpha” uniforms. CWO specialty marks are worn on Hard shoulder boards of white uniform variations, and only enlisted Guardsmen may wear the gold Coast Guard shield on the sleeves of a white uniform, specifically the Dinner Dress White Jacket.
