Coast Guard Warrant Officers (CWOs) wear the gold Coast Guard shield and a gold specialty mark above the rank stripes found on both sleeves of the Service Dress Blue coat worn with the Full Dress, Service Dress, and Dinner Dress Blue uniforms (but not with the Dinner Dress Blue Jacket uniform). Our sleeve device for Marine Safety Specialist Response CWOs combines the CG shield and the specialty mark on a single piece of blue serge fabric, ensuring that the specialty mark is properly centered over and the correct distance from the shield.
To attach the device, place it on the sleeve so its outermost edge (closest to sleeve end) is parallel to the cuff and the bottom of the CG shield is 1/4-inch from the top of the CWO stripe. Maintaining these parameters, adjust the device so the shield and specialty marks are horizontally centered on the sleeve.
The CWO specialty Marine Safety Specialist Response was established in 2013, making it the third Marine Safety specialty created over a span of five years. MSSR Warrant officers specialize in overseeing preparation to ensure rapid, coordinated responses between various units and organizations.
