Embroidered on blue serge fabric to match the Service Dress Blue coat, our sleeve device for Coast Guard Maritime Law Enforcement Specialists (MLES) includes the gold Coast Guard shield worn above sleeve rank stripes and the MLES Chief Warrant Officer specialty mark, a gold diamond framing the silhouette of a traditional law-enforcement badge holding a miniature Coast Guard shield.
Orient the sleeve device so that its bottom edge is parallel to the CWO rank stripe, with the bottom of the Coast Guard shield a quarter-inch from the top of the stripe. Then just horizontally center the device on the outside of the sleeve and sew into place.
This device is worn on both the left and right sleeves of the Service Dress Blue coat (part of Full Dress Blue, Service Dress Blue, and Diner Dress Blue uniforms). While CWOs wear the Coast Guard shield on the sleeves of uniforms authorized for highly formal events (Dinner Dress Blue/White Jacket and Formal Dress Uniforms), the specialty marks are omitted.
Enlisted personnel are authorized to wear specialty marks on the right sleeve of almost all Service and Dress blue uniforms and the Dinner Dress White Jacket.
