COAST GUARD MEDICAL ADMINISTRATION CWO SLEEVE DEVICE

The caduceus that serves as the specialty mark for both enlisted Health Service Technicians and Medical Administration (MED) Warrant Officers was originally adopted in 1936 for the CWO specialty of Pharmacist; a version with oak leaves was used for the Physician’s Assistant Warrant Officer specialty from 1990 to 2005.

Our sleeve device for Coast Guard Medical Administration Warrant Officers features the MED insignia placed 1/4” above the top of the Coast Guard shield, both insignias embroidered in golden thread on a square of blue serge fabric. The device is worn exclusively on both sleeves of the Service Dress Blue coat with the devices centered horizontally on the outside of the sleeve and the bottom of the shield 1/4” above the single Chief Warrant Officer rank stripe.

Coast Guard Medical Administration Warrant Officers are responsible for the oversight and management of all Coast Guard medical facilities ashore and afloat. Gaining hands-on experience in the various operational aspects of health-care delivery while serving as Health Service Technicians, they
are top-level manages and administrators who ensure Guardsmen, family members, and other patients have unfettered access to the treatments and medications they need.
