An optional uniform purchase for all Guardsmen in the grade of O-3 and below, the Dinner Dress Blue Jacket Uniform (DDBJ) is prescribed for Coast Guard Officers in the rank of Lieutenant Commander (O-4) and higher, all Gold Badge Command Master Chief Petty Officers (E-9), and the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard. This cold-weather uniform is worn to official evening functions at which civilians wear black-tie with tuxedos, as well as any formal event (formal dances, weddings, theater or opera productions, receptions, and so forth).
The semi-peaked, narrow-lapeled jacket from which the uniform derives its title is identical to the one worn by Navy Officers for its DDBJ and is manufactured with a 55/45 polyester-wool fabric blend. It is of course differentiated from its USN counterpart by the use of Coast Guard insignia, including the insignia embossed on the three 35-ligne buttons on each front panel of the jacket. The Officer version of the DDBJ seen here has the same design as the DDBJ worn by Enlisted Guardsmen, with rank insignia displayed by sleeve striping for Officers and rating badges for Enlisted personnel.
