USMC SERVICE TAPE FOR DESERT MARPAT
This service tape is worn on the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform MCCUU made with the Desert variant of the Marine Pattern camouflage, or MARPAT. The Desert and Woodland MARPAT variants of the MCCUU replaced the Desert Battle Dress Uniform (1982 – 1995), Desert Camouflage (1995 – 2003, and Woodland Battle Dress Uniforms (1982 – 2003).
USMC Uniform Regulations call for the Combat Utility Uniform name (as in Marine’s last name) and service tapes to be crafted from the same MARPAT material onto which they are sewn. For the Desert MARPAT service tape, brown block letters measuring ¾” in height are embroidered onto a strip of MCCUU fabric made with the Desert MARPAT camouflage. The service inscription is read “U.S. MARINES” in all capital letters and with a space before “MARINES.” These words are to be centered on the service tape, which is to be long enough to line up with the edges of left breast pocket after the edges of the tape have been folded under before being sewn on.
