The wear of plastic nametags in the Marine Corps is prescribed by local commanders at schools and during conferences and related events. Per regulations, our USMC nametag is black and measures 5/8” in width and 3” in length. Only last names are permitted to be engraved using black-type letters; letters are approximately 3/8” high and 3/16” wide (smaller letters are allowed to accommodate longer names). No symbols, nicknames, initials, or other information (such as organizational affiliation) is permitted.
Nametags are worn only on Service and Blue Dress uniforms when worn as the uniform of the day (they may not be worn on the female white shirt). Their wear is not permitted while on liberty or leave, but if prescribed by the commander they may be worn at events taking place away from the base. They are worn centered 1/8” above the right breast pocket (position in the same general location on uniforms that lack pockets). For wear on female service coasts with slanted pockets, a horizontal line touching the pocket’s highest point will be considered the top of the pocket.
