This set of sleeve-stripe lacing for Merchant Marine and other naval uniforms comes with one roll of 2-inch-wide lacing and three rolls of half-inch lacing, a configuration used for the United States Navy and Coast Guard ranks of Admiral (sometimes written as “four-star Admiral” or “full Admiral” because Rear and Vice Admirals are addressed simply as “Admiral”).
Although there is no official rank of Admiral in the United States Merchant Marine (to the best of our knowledge), we have included an option for silver lacing, frequently used in the Merchant Marine, because of the USMM’s close association with the United States Maritime Service. By law, the Maritime Service uses the ranks and insignia of the United States Coast Guard.
Stripes are placed on the sleeves of dress jackets and coats with the largest stripe two inches from the end of the sleeve and 1/4-inch of space between all adjacent stripes. Corps devices, such as the Merchant Marine’s gold fouled anchor, are centered on the outside of the sleeve 1/4-inch above the topmost stripe.
