Both the Air Force and the Navy as well as the Civil Air Patrol and Coast Guard Auxiliary authorize the wear of silver tips for belts with matching silver buckles. We carry two versions of this classic silver buckle: The Male version is for belts that are 1.25” wide, and the Female is for 1-inch-wide belts.
Silver buckles are worn in the Navy by enlisted Sailors in the ratings of E-1 to E-6. Regulations call for male Sailors to wear the belt so that the clip is to the left of the buckle, and vice-versa for female Sailors. The Coast Guard Auxiliary, on the other hand, merely specifies that silver tips are used for the black and white web belts.
Current United States Air Force uniform regulations call for a mirrored finish for belt buckles and tips; the wear of oxidized or satin buckles, tips, specialty insignia, and badges was abolished in 1998. Silver tips with a chrome finish are worn on belts with the Men’s and Women’s Service Dress Uniforms (Class A), the Men’s and Women’s Blue Service Uniform (Class “B”), and the Air Force Food Service uniform. The tip should extend beyond the buckle to the wearer’s right, but no fabric will be visible between the buckle and the tip.
The Civil Air Patrol follows the USAF uniform regulations.
