This service tape is designed for wear with the
Navy Working Uniform Type II. The United States Navy introduced the NWU Type II uniform in 2010, replacing the Camouflage Utility Uniform (known as Battle Dress Uniform in the Army) that had been worn by Navy ground troops for nearly three decades. It employs a camouflage pattern called AOR-1 that was inspired in part by the USMC camouflage pattern (MARPAT) that was developed for personnel serving in the United States Special Operations Command, or USSOCOM; it is typically worn by Navy Special Warfare Operators, Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen, and SEABEES deployed in arid or desert environments.
Both a nametape (featuring the wearer’s last name) and a service tape (military branch) are worn on the NWU Type II uniform. Service tapes feature embroidered black letters, ¾-inch in height, that spell out “U.S NAVY” with a space between the words; these are embroidered on a strip of NWU Type II fabric roughly 1.25” in length. The tape is sewn above and flush with the left breast pocket on the NWU Type II blouse, and the name tape is similarly positioned above he right breast pocket.
