Silver belt buckles are authorized for wear by personnel in the Navy and Air Force as well as by members of two affiliated organizations, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Civil Air Patrol. Note that different sizes are available to accommodate male and female belt sizes, which are 1.25” and 1” in width for males and females respectively.
The mirrored finish on this belt buckle conforms to United States Air Force uniform regulations, which discontinued the wear of satin or oxidized belt buckles and tips, badges, and specialty insignia (regular and miniature) in October 1998. In their place, the Air Force requires chrome or chrome-like buckles and tips and highly polished badges (although satin/oxidized “Heritage Wings” are permitted as a legacy item). The Civil Air Patrol follows the USAF guidance regarding the wear of silver belt buckles.
In the Navy, silver buckles are worn with a variety of belts authorized for Sailors in the ratings E-1 to E-6. Female Sailors wear the belt with the buckle to the left of the clip, while male Sailors wear the buckle to the right of the clip.
Coast Guard Auxiliary uniform rules call for the wearing of a silver buckle and tip with the black web and white web belts.
