Authorized by Navy uniform regulations which allow belt buckles to feature “appropriate naval insignia…to which the wearer is entitled,” our silver Petty Officer First Class belt buckle comes in Male and Female sizes and features the PO1 insignia of a perched eagle above three chevrons. Note that male Sailors wear belts with this buckle so that the clip end touches the buckle’s left side, and vice-versa for female Sailors. For unisex uniforms, the belt is to be worn so the clip is to the left side of the buckle.
To advance PO2 to PO1 and the E-6 pay grade, enlisted Sailors must receive a recommendation from their Commanding Officers and meet the time-in-service and time-in-rate requirements of seven years and 36 months, respectively. They also must complete the Personnel Qualification Standards associated with their rating, a Non-Resident Career Course, and quite likely some type of leadership development program. Until 2004, this was called the Leadership Training Continuum, but that was replaced with more job-specific programs like the Work Center Supervisor Leadership Course.
