The Male Chief Petty Officer Summer White Service Uniform is one of the few U.S. Navy uniform ensembles worn by CPOs that does not have an equivalent version worn by enlisted Sailors in rates of E-6 and below. CPOs have two Service uniforms, the Summer White and the Service Khaki (Summer or Winter wear), while Enlisted personnel have a single year-round Service Uniform comprising a Khaki short-sleeved shirt and black trousers.
The Male CPO Summer White Uniform consists of a white short-sleeved shirt worn with an open collar, white trousers, white belt with gold buckle, white dress shoes, a white Combination Cap. As the name implies it is worn only during the summer when performing office work, watchstanding duties, on liberty, or when carrying out business ashore and it has been prescribed as the Uniform of the Day. Because CPOs wear collar grade insignia with the Summer White uniform instead of the Shoulder Boards worn by Officers, the shirt does not come with shoulder loops or epaulettes.
