In the United States Navy, Chief Warrant Officers 2 (W-2) wear metal grade insignia on the shoulder straps of the Blue All-Weather Coat and the Black Jacket. Insignia are placed with the outer edges 3/4 inch from the strap’s squared end and oriented so that the longer dimension of the bar forms a fore and aft line, i.e., is pointing to the wearer’s front and back. Black Jackets must be at zipped at least 3/4. Navy CW2 insignia are currently authorized for wear on both Single- and Double-Breasted All-Weather Coats, but Single-Breasted versions have a wear-out date of 30 September 2020.
Chief Warrant Officers 2 in the Coast Guard wear these metal grade insignia on the Trench Coat and Windbreaker. Placement is identical to Navy regulations (.75” from end of epaulet, long dimension oriented fore and aft).
