Worn by all U.S. Navy Noncommissioned Officers in grades E-7 and above, the Male Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Service Dress White (SDW) uniform (SDW) is nearly identical to the SDW worn by male officers. It is prescribed for wear at functions where more formal uniforms (Formal, Dinner, or Full Dress) are not called for, but it is limited to wear during the Summer, with its single-breasted design and standing (Mandarin) collar giving it a distinctly unique appearance.
Its varies from the Male Officer SDW in that rank insignia is displayed on the collars rather than on shoulder boards. It’s also highly similar in appearance to the Female CPO SDW, but has five buttons instead of the six found on the female uniform and comes with two breast pockets with flaps; the female CPO SDW has none.
