The Dinner Dress White Jacket Uniform (DDWJ) is an optional Summer uniform for Male Chief Petty Officers and Enlisted personnel that may be worn when the Dinner Dress White uniform has been prescribed. It is worn to official functions that would be classified as “Black Tie” events for civilians.
Constructed with the same design as the DDWJ Uniform for male officers, the male CPO and Enlisted versions both feature Rating Badges and Service Stripes on the left sleeve in lieu of the Shoulder Boards that display rank insignia and branch of service worn by Officers/Chief Warrant Officers (Service Stripes are reserved only for Enlisted personnel). Officers and Chief Petty Officers wear Navy eagle gilt buttons on the jacket and the link-chain closure, while Enlisted personnel (E-6 and below) wear silver buttons; similarly, the gold cummerbund, shirt studs, and cuff links worn by Officers/CPOS are replaced by a black cummerbund and black or silver studs and cuff links for Enlisted Sailors. White suspenders are a basic component for all personnel regardless of rank or rate.
