The regular size (1.25”) Petty Officer First Class (E-6, or PO1) metal grade insignia comes in two versions: a Standard version consisting of a silver spread eagle perched above three silver chevrons, and the Good Conduct version, which utilizes the imagery of eagle and chevrons but with a gold rank markings.
To qualify for the Good Conduct versions, a Sailor’s past twelve months of active or reserve service must have been at a level that would qualify them for the Navy’s Good Conduct award, a record that would also authorize them to wear gold service stripes and gold chevrons on their rating badges. The Good Conduct version may be worn only on the epaulets of the Black Relax Fat jacket when it is worn with the Service Uniform.
The Standard version of the regular sized PO1 metal grade insignia is worn the epaulets of the double-breasted All-Weather Coat, as well as on the collars of the single-breasted All-Weather Coat.
