Just as with belt buckles and tie clasps, the color of buttons on Navy dress uniforms is determined by rank or rate: gold is reserved for Officers and CPOS E7 to E9, while silver buttons are employed on uniforms for male and female Sailors in the rates of E1 to E6. But both gold and silver versions share the same imagery: an eagle rising, head facing to the wearer’s right, with one talon clutching the stock of an anchor and the other grasping its shank. Around the entire periphery of the button is a rope, and just inside it are 13 stars equally spaced around the circumference.
Our silver Navy buttons come in two sizes. The 35-Ligne button is worn on the Male Dinner Dress Blue/White jackets and on the Female Service Dress Blue jacket, while the 22.5-Ligne buttons are used on the Female Dinner Dress Blue / White jackets.
