Worn by Female Officers and Chief Petty Officers (CPOs) with the Summer White Service Uniform, the Summer White Shirt is made of 100% polyester Certified Navy Twill (CNT), the only fabric authorized for any of the components of the male or female version of the uniform (previous regulations had authorized a 65/35 polycotton blend for both versions the shirt).
This short-sleeved CNT shirt features two breast pockets with button flaps and a convertible collar that is worn open; the collars must measure no more than 3.25 inches with a medium spread. Unlike with the Service Khaki Uniform, Officers and CPOs display rank insignia differently: Officers wear
hard shoulder boards, while CPOs wear
collar grade insignia. Female personnel wear the ship with all buttons buttoned except the top collar button.
The Summer White Service Uniform is prescribable as Uniform of the Day during the Summer for personnel performing officer work, carrying out watchstanding duties, or while ashore on liberty or conducting business.
